Case study · Kid-safe video library · iPhone, Android & web

GuardianTube

A video library parents choose and kids enjoy, with every rule enforced on the server.

Parents choosing videos for their kids in the GuardianTube app

The challenge

Kids' video apps often rely on filters and recommendations, so something unsuitable eventually slips through. Parents wanted the opposite: kids should only ever see videos a parent has approved, on every device.

What we built

  • Parents search and approve individual videos; children only ever see their own approved library, with no open search.
  • Every rule enforced on the server, not the device, so a child can't get around it by changing a setting or switching devices.
  • One family account across an iPhone app (SwiftUI), an Android app (Kotlin and Jetpack Compose) and a React web app.
  • A NestJS backend and an admin console behind all three clients.

Technology

  • SwiftUI
  • Kotlin
  • Jetpack Compose
  • React
  • NestJS

The result

A family product that works the same on iPhone and the web, built on one shared backend.
